Department of Mental Health Seeks Applicants for Child Associate Positions

The deadline for application is 2 pm, Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

Washington, DC—The District of Columbia Department of Mental Health is accepting applications for part-time, child associate positions for its Primary Project program.  The Primary Project is an early intervention and prevention initiative to reduce social, emotional and school adjustment difficulties and to enhance school related competencies.  Evaluation studies show that the Primary Project helps children become more productive in school.

A child associate works at an assigned school or child development center a minimum of 15 hours per week up to a maximum of 25 hours based on availability of funds.  Under the supervision of a Primary Project program manager, a child associate works closely with teachers and parents or guardians. An applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience working with children—preferably in a school setting. A college degree in a child-related field of study is preferred. An applicant also must demonstrate reading and writing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and EXCEL. A criminal background check will be conducted.
