Sexual Health

DC residents learn about sexual health

Sex is more than physical contact!

Sexual Health Education

Sexual Health can be defined as the state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; and not merely the absence of disease.  Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having safe sexual experience, free from force, discrimination and violence.

DOH’s Health and Sexual Health Education Program

DOH’s Health and Sexuality Education Program delivers health and sexuality education sessions to District children and youth in collaboration with other DOH programs, DC Public and Public Charter schools, other government agencies and community-based organizations.

Education sessions are designed to run for one full hour and can be delivered as a single session or as part of a series.  Topics include: Pregnancy Prevention, Sexually Transmitted Disease, Growth and Development, Reproductive Anatomy, Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships.  For more detailed information, please see the Health Education Session Topics and Descriptions attachment below.

How to Request Services

Any of the following individuals can request DOH’s sexual health education services: school nurses, school principals, counselors, health teachers, counselors, or social workers. To request services, please check out the Speakers Bureau.

Please note that DOH has both male and female health educators, and accepts requests of gender preference.
